Rotherham’s own hot boy trio The Heebie Jeebies, make their recorded debut with single Misery Guts on August 10th and emerge blinking in the summer sun for their first festival bow at Glastonbury later this month.

Owen, Del and Thom collectively indulge in “Fruity Beefheart beats, calypso rhythms and west coast noise flex, caressed with a poetic social panorama”. Formed at Sheffield Institute Of Arts, The Heebie Jeebies imbue a colourful charm and style that embraces modern insecurities with an ‘end of the rainbow’ mentality.

Their influences vary from Trad African & tribal Kalimba songs to post punk ‘Industrial’, with melodic nods to boozy Britpop soirees and Welsh Psych; a light hearted approach to narratives of cultural indecency.

A DIY aesthetic and a veritable smorgasbord of ideas permeate everything they do, from art directing their photo shoots, to designing artwork and beyond. They’ll be showing off their origami skills for the packaging on the new single.

Having cut their touring teeth with new best friends Hot Club De Paris and Slow Club, and benefiting from kindly champions amongst the Steel City glitterati Jarvis Cocker, Richard Hawley, Matt Helders and Toddla T, the band will be heading out for shows throughout the summer.

Their endearingly shambolic live show can’t disguise some seriously accomplished musicianship – self-taught they might be but these boys know their chops.

Tango in the Attic are really struggling to write the first line of this biog. We know how important it is for the first line to grab your attention and compel you to read on, so we are really trying. Once we get that first line out of the way we can start to tell you about how five guys in their early twenties, having grown up together in the small Scottish town of Glenrothes, formed a band whilst studying at Edinburgh University.

We found some practice space under a vintage clothes shop where we really started to develop our sound. Borrowing antique organs from grandparents, thieving cowbells from unsuspecting farmers and grabbing every unused table lamp we could get our hands on, we created an instrumental and ambient environment that has contributed directly to our overall style.

We take influence from the best pop, avant-garde and east coast garage music made over the last forty years. Acts such as Paul Simon sum up for us the art of writing a good pop song in an original way and we admire the pioneering work of bands such as The Velvet Underground for their unique approach to instrumentation and arrangement.

Taking heed from these examples, we attempt to write pop songs that are both unobvious but undeniably optimistic, encouraging listeners to engage and enjoy our energetic, uplifting music. We echo this sentiment through our live performance which succeeds in transferring our musical energy to the feet and hips of an ever growing and gratifyingly loyal fan-base.

Our live show has grown from playing small local gigs to touring nationwide. In the summer of 2009 we played several small festivals along side our National festival ‘T in the park’. Our performance there was enjoyed by 2000 festival goers who crammed themselves into a packed tent during an already impressive festival line-up. In addition to the public response we received very positive reviews in the national and music press.

In just under 18 months we’ve established ourselves as one of the freshest and exciting bands in Scotland. This is reflected in the admiration we have received from BBC Radio 1 amongst others in the media.

This progression was further established when our song Jackanory was selected by national fashion retailer Schuh as a synchronisation for their latest UK and Ireland wide TV campaign. This has cemented Tango in the Attic as a credible yet accessible, published artist.

We have self released three singles in 2009 which have grown positively in turn and as such given us the opportunity to tour our products extensively.

In July 2010 we released our debut record ‘Bank Place Locomotive Society’ on our own label. This has recieved rave reviews on both sides of the atlantic. A full touring schedule had been planned for this product. We have self financed all these projects so far and have managed to sustain a good financial balance. This has been aided in part by our strong merchandising function, which has helped us to establish a recognisable and successful brand image.

We are very serious about our progression and see this music business as a ‘business’ we have a strong business plan with a good product and understand the need for professional services such as press pluggers and agency

Nevertheless, we can’t even begin to tell you any of this until we find that all important first line! Wish us luck.

British India emerged from the fertile underbelly of Melbourne’s independent music scene to take Australia by storm in July 2007 with their acclaimed debut album Guillotine. As their songs ‘Black & White Radio’, ‘Tie Up My hands’, ‘Run The Red Light’ and ‘Teenage Mother’ became arm-raising, air-punching anthems at venues and festivals across the country, British India developed a hard-earned reputation for their explosive live shows. They took out the 2007 AIR Award for Best New Independent Artist.

Exactly one year later in July 2008 the boys released their second album Thieves. Thieves debuted at N0 5 in the national ARIA chart and No1 in the AIR Independent chart. The album demonstrated the band’s growth, both as songwriters and musicians as heard in the brooding, foot-stomping singles ‘I Said I’m Sorry,’ ‘This Dance Is Loaded,’ ‘You Will Die And I Will Take Over’ and ‘God Is Dead (Meet The Kids)’, and earned the boys their first ARIA Award nomination.

British India are one of Australia’s hardest working bands, having played over 300 gigs in the past two years alone. They’ve smashed their way through several sell-out tours and festivals like Big Day Out, Falls, Pyramid Rock, Southbound, Homebake and Splendour In The Grass to name a few. British India’s live show is a force to be reckoned with.

The band have earned their place as the indie darlings of Australia’s underground music scene in more ways than one. Having resisted the temptation of the major record labels the boys remain unsigned and more independent than ever before. ‘Vanilla’ released exclusively to Triple J became the station’s most popular download in November and gave the boys their 3rd entry in Triple J Hottest 100. Their new album ‘Avalanche’ gave the boys their 2nd top 10 album in 18 months in Australia.

The Lucid Dream were formed in Carlisle, Cumbria, in January 2008, fusing a love of drones and psychedelic sounds, combined with the ability to condense this into the perfect pop song.

‘I Got The Devil’ was released on the split Dead Young Records 10″ single ‘Dead Young Club’ to stellar reviews, suggesting comparisons to The Jesus and Mary Chain, Spacemen 3 and Suicide to name a few, gaining worldwide airplay and press along the way. These comparisons where reaffirmed and broadened after ‘Love In My Veins’ appeared on the Psyilocybin Sounds release ‘Open Your Mind’, alongside The Brian Jonestown Massacre & The Three 4 Tens, amongst others.

The band have gained praise from the likes of Steve Lamacq, who selected ‘In Your Eyes’ as his listeners tip of the week on his Radio 2 show, as well as further support from Tom Robinson on BBC 6 Music (’Love In My Veins’, ‘Jesus Say My Prayers’, ‘The Twilight End’).

Support slots with Spectrum (featuring Sonic Boom, founder member of Spacemen 3), as well as to The Aliens and Crocodiles have gone to enhance the bands growing live reputation, as well as back to back appearances at Kendal Calling festival.

The Lucid Dream retreated to an abandoned 15th Century Mill at Erbistock, North Wales, to record their debut EP. Using the natural reverb of the age old stone structure, along with producer Ross Halden, the band crafted a psychedelic, drone laden masterpiece, mastered in LA by Dave Cooley (Black Angels/Serge Gainsbourg/Axelrod).Deeplines were also onsite to capture the process in the short film, set to ‘I Got The Devil’, which was included on the EP. The EP was released on 3 May 2010, and sold out within the month of release, to stunning reviews.

The E.P will be followed up in early autumn with the single release of ‘In Your Eyes’, via 360 Degree Music. The single was recorded with Ross Halden at Ghost Town Studios, Leeds, and mastered by John Cornfield (The Verve/The Stone Roses/The Aliens).

Trapped In Kansas formed in 2008 and have been on one of the most exciting journey’s ever since. This four piece hailing from Scotland, Ireland and England have become one of the most talked about and critically praised bands of the past year in Scotland. Chris, Finn, Gregor and Iain create mathematically intricate music that is not only thought provoking but also sonically magnificent.

Within the first day of Trapped In Kansas making their recordings public they were offered a slot at King Tuts. Since then they have not looked back and have played festivals such as goNorth, T In The Park, Rockness, headlined Oxjam and have also done live sessions for Radio 1 and Air 3. They have also supported such notable artists as Mimas, Tubelord, Pulled Apart By Horses and Rolo Tomassi.

2010 sees their journey continuing with a single release in production and countless live shows Trapped In Kansas have cemented their reputation on the Scottish music network and it will only be a short matter of time before they cause as much of a stir much further afield.

‘Both ‘Antlers’ and ‘The Idiot’ are cut from a different cloth from your standard 4/4 time, 12-bar rock. Instead the guitar lines bleed off in countless directions like dabs of watercolour paint, while the rhythm slinks through unfathomable shifts and progressions.’ The Scotsman

‘Acute melodic sensibility and complex blend of airy jazziness with truckloads of intricate guitar-work’ The List

‘They channel the spirit of the Mars Volta away from the excesses of jazz obscurantism and towards the relative safety of post-rock. Some impressive fret-board virtuosity’ The Skinny

‘Scotland’s most accomplished math rock act’ Under the Radar

Adam Ficek is most commonly known to the general public for his day-job as drummer in notorious British rock act Babyshambles. As a member of the band fronted by Pete Doherty, the most talked- and written-about rock star of our time, Adam has seen the best and worst of life at the casualty-laden core of the music industry, but what many people don’t know is he is also a talented multi-instrumentalist who writes and performs beautifully crafted songs under the nom-de-plume of Roses Kings Castles.

Originally conceived as a creative outlet whilst Babyshambles were on holiday, Roses Kings Castles became something more than a means of occupying himself during down time. “I continually write, whether it’s big band arrangements, electro riffs or folk-pop songs. I just needed an avenue to walk down.”

The Roses Kings Castles sound is lost somewhere between Belle & Sebastian’s pastoral warmth and the hallucinatory six-string invocations of Syd Barrett, and manages to blissfully combine astute acoustic pop melodies with the finest elements of classic British songwriting.

Adam’s eponymus debut album has sold more than 3,000 copies since its release in September 2008 and a number of dates around Europe and America has seen him picking up many new fans across the globe. A string of low-key UK and Scandinavian shows in Spring 2009 saw Adam previewing new material, and working with a full band.

Following the release of a 6 track limited edition cassette only release (!) in May 2009, Adam re-entered the studio and cut a number of tracks. The first fruits of his labour were released as the ‘Apples & Engines’ EP, and a new album, Suburban Time Bombs was recorded in the months that followed.

The first single from the album, ‘One Born Every Minute’ was issued on 3rd May, and will be followed by an album this summer.

Born in 2009, Leeds band Club Smith have drawn on personal experiences to create something unworldly unique, with the lyrics focussing on a whirlwind of misdirection and lack of focus. Brooding with a dark undercurrent and daunting rhythms Club Smiths’ songs rumble quietly into epic slow-burning anthems.

Debut release “The Loss EP” out on 8th March 2010 has had support from Huw Stephens (Radio 1), Rory McConnell (Radio 1) Tom Robinson (6 Music), KCRW (Santa Monica, US), and picked up universal press approval from all over including Artrocker/Converse Music, Contactmusic.com and thelineofbestfit.com. Club Smith’s second release “The Process EP” is out on 14th June 2010. Each track on the Process EP holds the same anthemic quality of their debut release, with an inherent energy that is no less than spell binding.

Remixes are from Peanut (Kaiser Chiefs) and Co-Pilots (Jamie Ellis/Russell Bloc Party), dropping inbetween the EPs.

In Spring 2010 Club Smith featured on the 5th Birthday compilation album by Leeds Record Label Dance to the Radio available on 12 inch picture disc.

Amidst a hefty touring schedule in their native Australia, four-piece Hungry Kids of Hungary somehow found the time to jump back into the studio for a few days, coming out with their second EP – Mega Mountain. Much like the band themselves, the EP was a quartet of lively pop energy entwined with layers of thought provoking vitality. Key tracks included the radio favourite body-bopping ‘Scattered Diamonds’ and the stunning piano-driven ballad ‘Old Money’.

Once again hitting the road, the band spent the next eight months touring Australia continuously, supporting the likes of Little Birdy and Bertie Blackman and winning fans with their stellar musicianship and boyish charm. November 2009 saw the band stand on their own eight feet, parading their buoyant brand of indie pop around Australia on their very first national headline jaunt.

The tour coincided with the release of a brand new single, ‘Let You Down’ which provided the first taste of the new material since the release of Mega Mountain in early 2009. The song is the sound of four Hungry Kids doing what they do best - delivering pure pop goodness in a neat package of their trademark, dual-harmony brilliance, it channels a time when recordings were captured to tape, music was joyful and harmonies reigned supreme, even when accompanied by tales of heartbreak and loss.

The monumentally busy year was capped off with solid festival appearances on the Australian Summer circuit. With an overseas assault to the UK and USA scheduled for May, the lads have completed one last round of touring and are currently bunkered down getting busy to deliver a much anticipated debut album in 2010.

Record of The Day (UK) ‘Let You Down’ - October 20, 2009

‘This song [Let You Down] will make the worst of ingrown hairs find their way to the surface, in hopes of a better listen.’ - Ryan Brockington, NY Post

Right, let’s be honest biographies are often boring and monotonous. Four lads from a big city…blah blah blah….Firstly then, perhaps it would be more productive to tell you what The Book Club are not, rather than to tell you what they are about.

For a start you won’t find them dressed in all matching leather jackets, finally arriving on stage a bit worse for wear about an hour after they were meant to go on. They won’t be sporting rosary beads, trilbies or any other unnecessary accessories aimed at promoting an image of the bohemian tortured genius. The very fact that people go to such lengths in order to look like they don’t give a f*ck is quite self-explanatory. They aim not to produce promotional photographs which present the band as a group of angry doormen nor strive to create contrived images of ‘fun!’. Also, and this is most important, The Book Club will never, under any circumstances swear in a sentence that does not require it. Ok that last one was a bit far fetched.

Very well, now the soap box has been put away let’s be serious for a moment. The band does have a bit of previous. Joe was the lead singer in Sheffield favourites milburn but far from dwelling on what might have been he has gathered together a nice little troop of musicians, all cousins, to produce what is quickly becoming a tight knit popular beat combo. Of course Joe’s voice has not changed and there’s still that essence of melody carried on from the milburn days. However, this band is different, this band has got it’s priorities right. Gone are the youthful ideas of world-domination. Here is the understanding that you make your own music your own way. If that means penning little ditties about your other half, broaching a minefield topic such as the hillsborough disaster or even highlighting pessimistic British attitudes mid recession, then so be it. As you may have guessed, they don’t have much time for the over-complicated but by the same token refuse to play the ‘indie tunes by numbers’ game.

The fact of the matter is that this band have quality songs and are outstanding live. Fashions may change and at some point their faces may fit. But for the mean time they’re content to hone their sound and make new friends in the process. Forty years ago this band would have made it, no question. Why should 2010 be any different?

Life In Film are Samuel Fry, Edward Ibbotson, Dominic Sennett and Micky Osment. The band formed when circumstances found the four friends living in the same town, and in fact the same flat in East London. Living together was the perfect opportunity to share their musical likes and dislikes, high and lows, and their passion for good times. It wasn’t long before in a basement under their local snooker hall they were putting together some songs of their own, culminations of varying musical tastes, bands such as The Smiths, The Beatles and Bowie giving influence to the sound.

The band released their debut single ‘’Sorry’’ at the start of the summer 2009, which found it’s way on to, amongst others, John Kennedy on XFM, Huw Stevens on Radio 1 and Gary Crowley on BBC London which culminated in them being asked to headline the BBC Introducing stage at Glastonbury. Described by Steve Lamacq as ‘‘a nice piece of fidgety pop,’’ and compared to ‘‘the kind of light and dark mind-f*ck that Radiohead used to do so, so well,’’ The Independent.

The band’s second single ‘’Get Closer,’’ which was released on the Ban Jam Label is perhaps their most quintessential song to date and shows what the band really has to offer. Its engaging and infectious drive showcases Life in Film’s unique and highly talented song writing skills in a near perfect indie pop song.

Having shared the stage with the Kooks, Super Furry Animals, Air Traffic, Mumford & Sons and Speech Debelle to name but a few the band execute a live set second to none.

One of the most exciting bands in the UK and now making waves in the US they are definitely one of the ones to watch out for in 2010.

What Would Jesus Drive are a London based four-piece ensemble. Forging the explosive energy of hardcore and the subtleties of post-punk, What Would Jesus Drive possess a fascinating sense of urgency and drive - making lively irresistible electro-pop noise uniquely their own. With nods to the synthetic bounce and scrappy DIY charm of Bis or cranked garage economy of their Medway neighbour Billy Childish, the music of What Would Jesus Drive ultimately really just reflects their own bratty, quirky impulses.

So far the band have had the pleasure of sharing stages with Dirty Pretty Things, Bromheads Jacket and Art Brut, as well as completing a string of frenzied performances throughout the US. Signed to Guerrilla Music, the band have been sighted as one of The Sunday Times’ Hottest Downloads as well as gathering praise from Artrocker, Subba Cultcha and Soundsxp.

With a single out on 31 August and their new album forthcoming in 2010, What Would Jesus Drive will be energetically promoting their debut album throughout the UK, US and Europe.

2010 is set to be the year for Leeds band The Kiara Elles.

The bands sound ranges from dancey and quirky to dark and punky, invoking memories of anything from Joy Division to Le Tigre or as The Guardian have said “Like one of those out-of-nowhere indie records that has the man in the street singing along to a guitar riff.”

The band recently spent time sparking alight the hormones and setting the pulses of young men and women racing as they travelled around the the UK touring their critically acclaimed ODIO EP, released on Mercury Award nominee Choque Hosein’s new imprint, Vandal. With recording completed, their first full length album Slide Over will be unleashed into the public domain 03 May preceded by a double-A single, Laser Shot/The Bet on 19 April. The band will embark on a UK tour in support of these releases.

Up to this point The Kiara Elles have been surfing the airwaves on a regular basis via radio play from 6 Music’s Steve Lamacq, Gideon Coe, Gary Crowley and Clare McDonnell. BBC Radio 1’s Huw Stephens has spun various tracks from ODIO on his BBC Introducing show.

With glowing reviews from respected music hacks across Europe, The Kiara Elles are tipped to take the step up to the next level into the bloodstream of the public consciousness over the next year.

“Sharp, smart & snappy!” Huw Stephens Radio 1

“No-one makes a noise like this, an enigmatic singer combines brilliantly with wailing guitars to create a catalogue of tunes that convulse like they’re in the electric chair.” Chris Martin NME Radio

“They are indie, they are electro, they are sexy, they are smart, the sound is urgent and fast paced” Music News Scotland

‘One of the most eloquent and raucously British voices in the last 2 decades’ - The Fly Magazine

Chris Helme served his dues as front man of ‘The Seahorses’ in the late 90’s. The York based singer-songwriter, blessed with one of the remarkable voices of his generation and a sublime song writing talent, is now forging a successful and respected career as a solo musician.

Chris is currently writing and recording for his second solo record, due out later this spring on Little Num Num Music, the label he co-founded in 2009. The album sees Chris drawing on lots of early influences, Says Helme: “I’ve been digging out my old blues records again, Big Bill Broonzy, Brownie McGhee, Bukka White and also Billie Holliday and Ray Charles. It sparked a feeling in me and I began to remember what hooked me into playing and singing in the beginning. I’ve always had a tendency to lean towards blues and Jazz and my voice is developing as I get older, so it seems natural to explore that avenue of influence.” However, the new record promises to have some modern, less obvious, twists and will see Helme collaborating with some of the many musicians he has met whilst touring over the last year.

Chris’ first solo album: ‘Ashes’ was released in May 2008. Since then he has been on the road (and rail) gigging almost continuously ever since. Playing over 200 shows in the year following the release has allowed him to reconnect with the legion of fans he had from his Seahorses days and also gain a new generation of admirers of his ‘emotional, stripped down set of late night love songs’ (IsThisMusic.com).

A break from touring at the start of 2009 gave Chris and his then band ‘The Yards’ the chance to put the finishing touches to their swansong record ‘Imperial Measures’. With Helme’s distinctive vocals and song writing running throughout the album’s 12 tracks, the record not only proved the perfect follow up to The Yard’s eponymous 2005 debut, but also to Chris’s more recent solo work; many of the album’s tunes have formed the staple of his live shows over the last 18 months. The Yard’s have since called it a day and this has allowed Chris to concentrate fully on his new record and given him the time to keep up his hectic solo tour schedule.

Whilst putting the finishing touches to his forthcoming album, Chris is still out gigging while he can and it is onstage alone where he really shines, his singing and song writing possessing a honed craft and emotional depth which these days are a rare thing indeed.

Formerly known as Nacional, we are For Abel. We make music. We want to make you sad becuase we feel like that too sometimes. We want to make you happy because thats what everyone wants to be.

Since acquiring limbs we have have flown far afield as showcasing at SXSW in Texas, as well as playing much closer to home in fields and lesser established premises. For Abel have been featured by BBC Radio’s Steve Lamacq, Vic Galloway, Huw Stephens, Colin Murray, Tom Robinson & Jim Gellatly and have also been digitised on the wireless by many others including XFM and NME Radio. The Skinny, Art Rocker, NME and numerous British tabloids have also thrown their arms towards For Abel in loving fashion.
